3 Community Internet Network, inilunsad ng U.S. Gov’t para sa mga magsasaka ng Butuan

INILUNSAD ng United States Agency for International Development o USAID ang tatlong (3) community internet network sa Butuan City na magbibigay-daan sa mahigit 600 magsasaka upang magkaroon ng access sa internet.

“The internet will allow our farmer members to access information, participate in online training, and communicate with other members of the cooperative,” ani KFPC Chairman Samuel Calawigan, Jr.

“We thank USAID and other partners for this opportunity, and we commit to give our very best to make this project successful and sustainable,” dagdag niya.

Ang KFPC ay isang multipurpose cooperative na may higit na 2,000 miyembrong magsasaka, na karamihan ay mga dating rebelde, at miyembro ng mga katutubong komunidad na nagtatanim ng palay, gulay, mais, saging, cacao, at iba pa.

Nililikom ang mga aning produkto at ibinebenta ng kooperatiba sa rehiyong nasasakupan ng Mindanao.

“Without connectivity, many of our projects would not be successful and inclusive,” pahayag ni Butuan City Vice Mayor Lawrence Lemuel Fortun.

“It is important for us to ensure that all communities, including cooperatives such as KFPC, will be able to take part in our development projects. We are eager to work with USAID for the replication of community networks in other areas across Butuan City,” ani Fortun.

Ang programang Better Access and Connectivity (BEACON) ay may pondong mahigit 1.65 bilyong piso o 33 milyong dolyar na inilaan ng USAID at ang mga ka-partner nito para sa pagtatayi ng limang (5) community internet network sa mga lugar na ‘geographically isolated’ at ‘disadvantaged areas’ sa buong bansa, na ang unang dalawang proyekto ay una nang inilunsad ngayong 2023 ‘sa mga lalawigan ng Quezon at Aurora.

Ang USAID ay patuloy na nakikipagtulungan sa mga ka-partner nito upang mag-deploy ng mga network sa komunidad na tutugon sa mga pangangailangang koneksyon.

Ang nasabing paglulunsad ay kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month.
