P1.6-B Mega-Project para palakasin ang Ph Higher Education, inilunsad ng Estados Unidos

LUNGSOD NG PUERTO PRINCESA — Inilunsad ng gobyerno ng Estados Unidos, sa pamamagitan ng United States Agency for International Development (USAID), ang U.S.-Philippines Partnership for Skills, Innovation, and Lifelong Learning (UPSKILL) Program nitong Pebrero 20, 2024.

Ito ay pinondohan ng 1.6 bilyong piso o 30 milyong dolyares na inisyatiba ng bansang U.S. na layuning tulungang mapataas ang edukasyon ng Pilipinas.

Ang UPSKILL Program ng USAID ay pagsasama-sama ng mga unibersidad sa Estados Unidos, mga ahensya ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas na nakikibahagi sa pagpapaunlad ng human capital, at mga kasosyo sa pribadong sektor upang isulong ang inobasyon at entrepreneurship sa mga institusyong may mas mataas na edukasyon ng pagsasanay sa mga guro at kawani, pagpapahusay ng kurikulum, at pagpapataas ng community outreach at paglipat ng teknolohiya.

Ang mga pagsisikap na ito ay magpapahusay sa mga kwalipikasyon at mga prospect sa karera ng mga Pilipinong nagtapos sa mas mataas na edukasyon upang patuloy na matugunan ang mga umuusbong na pangangailangan ng manggagawa at mapahusay ang mga ugnayan sa pagitan ng mga unibersidad sa U.S. at Pilipinas.

Ayon sa US Embassy, magkasama umanong inihayag nina U.S. President Joseph Biden at Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang inisyatiba sa pagbisita ni Pangulong Marcos sa White House noong Mayo 2023.

“The challenges and opportunities that young people face today in the workplace make college training and education critical for their future success,” ani USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for East Asia and the Pacific Sara Borodin sa paglulunsad ng UPSKILL Program sa University of Santo Tomas, Manila.

“Through this new USAID program, the United States government reaffirms its commitment to working with our Filipino partners in transforming the higher education sector,” dagdag ni Borodin.

Ang UPSKILL Program ay ipinatupad ng RTI International sa pamamagitan ng consortium ng mga unibersidad sa U.S., na kinabibilangan ng Arizona State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, at mga kasosyo sa Pilipinas tulad ng Edukasyon.Ph at Philippine Business for Education.

“With this partnership with USAID, the Commission on Higher Education will provide unique opportunities for our colleges and universities to continuously innovate in response to the aspirations of the Philippines, and specifically that of our students,” ayon kay CHED Executive Director Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro.

“Together, we will demonstrate the compelling value of internationally recognized training, cooperative research, and lifelong learning modalities being offered by Philippine higher education, “dagdag pa niya.

Samantala, ang nasabing programa ay nilahukan ng mga opisyal mula sa Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Second Congressional Education Commission, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry, National Economic and Development Authority, at Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, gayundin ang dumalo sa paglulunsad ng programa ang mga kinatawan mula sa ilang unibersidad sa Pilipinas.
