PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – Umarangkada ang ikalawang Maritime Cooperative activity sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) nitong Miyerkules hanggang Huwebes, Enero 3 at 4, ngayong taon.
Sa Facebook post, kinumpirma ng AFP na nagpadala ang kanilang ahensya ng apat (4) na barko mula sa Philippine Navy na kinabibilangan ng SAR/multi-role helicopter at anti-submarine warfare capable helicopter habang apat (4) na barko naman ang ipinadala ng US Navy Carrier Strike Group 1 na kinabibilangan ng isang aircraft carrier, isang cruiser, dalawang (2) destroyer, at maraming combat aircraft na ginamit sa nasabing aktibidad.
Ang dalawang araw na bilateral activity ay nagsagawa ng passing exercises, communication checks, cross-deck exercises, joint patrols, Officer of the Watch (OW) maneuvers, at fixed-wing flight operations.
Nagsagawa sa unang araw ng bilateral activity ang AFP at USINDOPACOM assets ng advanced maritime communication exercises sa rendezvous area ang dalawang bansa.
Nakumpleto ng mga kalahok na sasakyang-pandagat ang division tactics (DIVTACS), isang ehersisyo na layon ay mapaunlad ang kanilang kumpiyansa sa pagmamaniobra malapit sa ibang mga sasakyang-dagat.
“The 2nd maritime cooperative activity marks a significant leap in our alliance and interoperability with the United States. It also demonstrates our progress in defense capabilities and development as a world-class armed force, as we carry out our mandate to protect the people and the state,” ani AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner, Jr.
“Our alliance is stronger than ever, sending a message to the world. We are advancing a rules-based international order and a free and open Indo-Pacific region in the face of regional challenges,” dagdag nito.
Samantala, ang pagsasagawa ng mga pagsasanay na ito ay nangangailangan umano ng kumpletong koordinasyon sa pagitan ng mga asset ng PH-US upang mas mapahusay ang mga kakayahan sa pagpapatakbo at interoperability ng parehong pwersa.
