Task force vs. Mango pulp weevil sa Palawan, panawagan

Nanawagan ang Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Palawan na magkaroon ng isang Task Force para masugpo ang pagkalat ng Mango Pulp Weevil sa lalawigan, na magsisimula kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Nilalaman ng isang resolusyon sa Sanggunian, ang kahilingan para kay Pangulong Marcos na mag-intervene upang magkaroon ng isang Task Force para i-address at masugpo ang Mango Pulp Weevil sa Palawan, para sa “sustainable pest management” at “advancement ng global competitiveness” para sa industriya ng Mangga.

Inakdaan ang panawagan nina Board Member Rafael Ortega Jr., Board Member Ryan D. Maminta, Board Member Ariston Arzaga, at Board Member Christopher Jake Tan.

Pinipinsala ng Mango Pulp Weevil ang mga magsasaka ng manga ng Palawan. Dahil sa Mango Pulp Weevil, hindi na rin nai-export ang mga manga sa Palawan.

“The Mango Pulp Weevil (Stemochetus frigidus) is a quarantine pest endemic to Palawan, which has long hindered the export potential of Palawan’s mangoes due to phytosanitary restrictions imposed by importing countries, thereby limiting the livelihood opportunities of mango farmers and the province’s agricultural economy,” ayon sa kanila.

“The establishment of a dedicated Task Force, with the intervention and support of His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Republic of the Philippines, will definitely institutionalize coordinated efforts, initiatives, scientific research, and pest management strategies to eradicate or control the Mango Pulp Weevil in the Province of Palawan,” ayon sa panawagan.
